Online Dating: 8 Positive and Negative Aspects

You are already into online dating or you want to know more about it, this post contains all the information you need, either you are already into it or want to consider it.

It’s not a rumor or something new to anyone again because at a point in time, almost all of us have engaged in online dating. Online dating is the situation whereby you start or continue a relationship through the social media however, it has now advanced to the extent that we have some dating platform whereby everyone there, are either looking for someone to date or someone to date them.

This phenomenon was sometimes considered a bad thing because of the negative influence it attracts but we have heard of so many people who met themselves online and later got married to themselves. This actually shows that we can’t guess or predict what the end result of an online dating can be however, 70% of it don’t stand the test of time.

This post will be explaining the Positive and negative aspects of online dating.

Positive Aspects of Online Dating

1. Freedom of speech is expressed

The fact that we have some people who doesn’t know how to express themselves so well, online dating can help them in their starting years. Some of us are so fluent when it comes to online chatting and communication but we can’t communicate so well offline. That’s an advantage for those who are shy.

2. It’s easy to get matched with someone compatible

Dating sites are all about compatibility. There are so many possibilities, with sites being aimed at every niche from same-sex partnerships to older couples to people with specific hobbies. There is every chance you’ll find someone on your wavelength.

3. You can narrow down searches according to parameters

Remember how difficult it used to be meeting someone in the real world who ticked all of your boxes in terms of personality? You can narrow down prospective candidates for dates simply by specifying the type of partner you are seeking as soon as you join a site. The power is very much in your hands.

4. You can learn all about someone before dating

Although it can sometimes be difficult to gain a full picture of someone’s character from a few paragraphs of online description, the more you get to know a potential partner by exchanging messages, the fuller the picture that will emerge. In this way, you can ensure there is chemistry between you before even contemplating a face-to-face encounter.

Negative Aspects of Online Dating

5. You might not be communicating with the real person

There are fake people out there who can take advantage of the fact that people are trusting when they enter online dating. You might as well come across another site user who is being less economical with the truth or has presented a false profile photograph. Risk of meeting a dishonest person who created a profile with a dating site only for scamming other member, telling them he/she is in need of help and would appreciate if they could cooperate with money.

Some just pose as another person for some other reasons. It’s also easy to be cat fished in online dating. You can check out this movie to watch a sample of this aspect.

6. You could fall for someone who lives miles away

The larger dating sites have memberships across the globe. It is quite feasible to find yourself forging a real connection with someone who lives in a different country. Obviously, this throws up all sorts of logistical issues when you eventually decide you would like to meet them in person.

7. The experience can become addictive

People who get really into online dating sometimes find it hard to switch off. Like many other activities which are based on computers or smart devices, there is always an urge to flick through the screens to the next profile while you’re checking out available singletons.

People who tend to get involved in such relationship tend to forget everything else and sit in front of the computer almost throughout the day; such activities not only affect their other work but their health as well. They tend to stay online for long periods, skipping meals and sleep and avoiding their responsibilities.

8. Security

To be sincere, having a first time meeting with our long time online Lover can be somehow risky. We are in the world where we don’t trust ourselves because of so many motives people show.

Final Thought

Online dating is good and bad, has its pros and cons, just like the aforementioned, but the choice of engaging in it is fully yours. People differs, some people like physical dating while some prefer online dating. You can try dating online but be very careful now that you are already aware of the cons. Everything in this world is risk. Take the risk but be careful.
