5 Best Ways To Make A Good First Impression At Your Workplace

0

It is always said that first impression last longer. How true is this statement?

It’s very true and accurate.

Looking for a job is a nerve- wracking experience and of course the pressure we pass through during job interviews aren’t small at all.

Finally after getting the job, you should never underestimate the importance of a good first impression especially the first day at work. Definitely, starting a new job can be a little bit stressful, you will have to figure out every procedure and meet everyone.

Your first day at work will teach you a lot of things that includes the personalities of your co-workers, the pattern and method of operation that aren’t mentioned before you got the job, the lines not to cross and those you shouldn’t pay attention to.

So these are the 5 best ways to make a good first impression at your workplace:

1. Build up a positive attitude

Building up a positive attitude at the first day at work will make a great impression about you. Be happy to be part of the team and let it show through to everyone you have an interaction with. Do not be bothered about your personal problems, concentrate more on your new job and its opportunities. Avoid distractions and put up a proper office etiquette.

2. Dress well

The way you dress can make a good first impression at your office. Before resuming, you should know the dress code of the organization because dress code varies in organizations.

If you are working in a professional place like finance or law, you should dress neat and professional. It is not necessary you wear a suit. Do not wear clothes that are too tight or too loose, make sure you are comfortable and do not undress or overdress.

3. Displaying confidence (self confidence)

Self-confidence means having a full trust in one’s own skills, decisions and abilities. Your  first day at work must reflect  that you are self-aware of your strengths and weaknesses. Note, displaying confidence at work is a gradual process which requires practice that has to begin at your first day at work. The best way to display confidence in order to make a good first impression at your office includes:

  • Make sure you are proud and instill in yourself that you have a unique trait.
  • Evaluate yourself with positive words. Do not allow negative thoughts and criticism because this can lead to self-doubt. Pay close attention to what you say to yourself and what you would say to your co-workers.
  • Self realistic goals and expectations for yourself.
  • Relate well with co- workers, offer help to others and in turn you will receive help.

4. Ask questions and help when necessary

It is never expected of you to know everything about the organization on your first day at work, so make sure you ask for clarification and help when in need rather than spending much time on a task in a wrong way.

5. Presenting to be a leader when opportunity present itself

Developing a leadership skill can arise at any position at work, not even reaching the managerial level. But how can you act right when an opportunity is opened for you to lead a team in order to complete a task?

Firstly, you should know that a team leader provides directions to other members of the team to achieve a common goal. Secondly, make sure you are transparent to your team members, communicate well to them. Also, learn to make quick decisions especially when goals are at risk. Build rapport with your team members and also consider their contributions, never think less of them. A good leader must also be willing to learn, don’t rely only on your contributions. All these can build up your confidence as a good leader.

Final Thought On Good First Impression

Try your possible best to be yourself. Do not pretend to be someone else, just because you want to make an impression. First impression last longer and it defines who you are, some people never forget the first impression you gave them, so make sure you learn to make good first impression not only at your workplace but wherever you go.

6 Most Effective Ways To Saying No: Learning To Say No

0

It’s a basic reality that if you take on too many responsibilities, you’ll never be productive—you’ll just stretch yourself too thin and be less likely to perform effectively or timely. As a result, learning the technique of saying no may be just be the needed push in the right direction. If you are finding it difficult SAYING NO, you are definitely not alone and you are just in the right place.

Yes, usually family members, friends, children, employees, and others will constantly make requests for your time, attention, energy or even money. You have to learn to say no in order to stay productive, save yourself stress, and avoid wasting time. This is what many have failed to learn over the years and regardless of our best intentions, they come with rather unfavorable consequences.

With these 6 most effective ways to saying no, you will definitely be able to learn to start saying NO.

The 6 most effective ways to saying No are:

1. Express Yourself

Just say no. Mind you, don’t equivocate, make flimsy justifications and over explain. This merely gives the other individual a chance to speak up. Also, don’t put it off or stall. If you feel prompted, provide a brief reason. It’s best if you don’t say much.

2.  Establish limits.

The reason why you are having a difficult time saying no might be because you have not sat down yet  to assess your relationships and understand your roles within them. You won’t be as concerned about the ramifications of saying no if you fully comprehend the dynamics and your role. Most likely, you’ll find that your connection is strong enough to endure your refusals.

3. Stand your Ground

When someone can’t take your no, you can bet they aren’t a sincere friend or don’t value your opinion. It is a sign that the person is being inconsiderate. Keep your cool when this happens and don’t feel obligated to give in simply because the other person is agitated.

4. Be Self-centered

First and foremost, check your priorities. This should be your needs and not the ones of the individual who has approached you with a request. If you put that person’s wants ahead of your own, you’ll notice that your productivity suffers and animosity grows.

5. Keep it simple

An ambiguous response might make the conversation awkward and cause the person making the request to become perplexed. You might leave them wondering if they should come up with further alternatives when you are not on board with the arrangement entirely.

A weak no, on the other hand, invites problematic people to barrage you with requests.

The trick is to keep it simple and firm.

6. Make no attempt to take responsibility for the sentiments of others

Another major reason I used to avoid saying no was because I didn’t want to upset people. I felt that I was responsible for how others felt, and I didn’t want them to be sad.

As a result, I’d go to great lengths to please people. I spent several late hours catching up on work because I prioritized the demands of others before my own and only had time for myself at night. This has a negative impact on my health and happiness.

We must establish a distinction between assisting others and assisting oneself at some point. We must safeguard our health and happiness in order to be of service to others.

CONCLUSION

Because most individuals are naturally polite and helpful to others, cruel and selfish people are constantly despised by the rest of society.

There are certain people who always look for the positive aspects of a person before anything else. While, this is a beautiful thing, it doesn’t always turn out well for those like this.

What will happen to the good folks when they realize that others might not necessarily be as selfless as they are?

Most of the time, these decent individuals are the ones who suffer the most because their good nature makes them susceptible.

So you’ve been suffering with your reluctance to say no to people in certain situations, even when it’s not in your best interests.

This is why you should go out today and say No when you feel suffocated by much demands. Remember to always put yourself first.

4 things I’ve learnt to value most in friendship

0

We are in the world where true friendship is so scarce even more than gold. A world where we care and value material things than we value friendship. A world where we use people rather than using things.

That’s why I won’t blame anyone if they decide not to have any friend because it’s good not to have at all than having the bad or so called fake ones.

However, the importance of making friends or having a friend in our lives can’t be overemphasize. This world is full of its own pressure and been so rigid to accept a friendship proposal isn’t the best way to approach it.

That’s why I’ve compiled some common traits, habits, and personality I’ve learnt to value most in friendship.

Whenever I see these things in people, I don’t doubt their genuineness because they are rare values that isn’t common in our age.

1. Honesty

Honesty is one of the most important determinant of a benefitting and positive friendship.

In a simple term, the word Honesty which can also be called truthfulness is a level of moral and character that describe positive and virtuous attributes which includes integrity, truthfulness, straightforwardness and most importantly,  the absence of lying, cheating or theft.

According to a popular saying by John Lennon,

Being honest may not get you a lot of friends but it’ll always get you the right ones.”

This shows that if you really want to have friends that are honest and truthful, you must also be the same.

It’s undisputed that Healthy and mature friendships are built on honesty, and these friendships continue to grow only if the friends stay true to each other.

Friends should be able to interact and speak openly from the heart without hiding any truth.

Cultivating honesty in ourselves is a task we must all do and this can be achieved by trying as much as possible to be honest with our friends, rather than trying to comfort them with a lie.

To me, this is the most valuable thing I treasure so much in friendship.

2. Loyalty

Loyalty is the second attributes and character that I cherish so much in friendship.

Loyalty which can also be used as the word allegiance is the act of been honest and true to a cause, relationship or friendship.

This literally means choosing a side over others now and forever.

Having friends who are loyal to you makes you feel more secure and protected than anything because it’s like walking a journey with people of like minds.

As the most wisest man in that bible writes, he said, There are ‘friends’ who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.” — Proverbs 18:24 NLT

No matter the things we are passing through or how tough times may get having a set of loyal friends or just a single one on our side makes challenges seem less daring.

Having a loyal friend will require you become one too because only loyal people attracts loyal people.

3. Respect

Respect which can also be called esteem, is a positive feeling passed to someone through action shown, word said or displayed. It means the person been shown respect is important and valuable to us.

This is another thing I value in friendship so much.

Friendship should be full of respect and esteem. We should all learn to admire each other’s effort by giving the right feeling for motivation and development.

When it comes to the way we address each other also, we should apply respect as we aren’t family by blood which means there can be little or big gap in age or status. All communication should be passed with respect.

4. Empathy

Empathy is the ability to feel or understand what other people are experiencing and feeling within their own frame of reference.

This means putting yourself in their shoe to help them in your own little ways.

According to E.H Mayoli,

“One friend, one person who is truly understanding, who takes the trouble to listen to us as we consider a problem, can change our whole outlook on the world.”

You must recognize how your friend is feeling in a particular stage of their life, this will help you interact and respond accordingly.

Having a friend with this trait will help us in difficult times. Only with empathy can we be able to help our friend through the tough situations they might be going through.

Conclusion

One thing we must understand is that we attract what we are. If you have any of this trait, you will easily find friends with same attributes and this will help your journey but if you are the type that is finding it difficult to exhibit these traits, you should try as much as possible to develop them.
